Interlibrary Loan supports the instructional, research, and scholarly activities of current Idaho State University faculty, staff, and students by providing access to materials not owned by the ISU Libraries.

Copyright Notice

The Copyright Law of the United States (Title 17, United States Code) governs the making of photocopies or other reproductions of copyrighted material.Under certain conditions specified in the Law, libraries and archives are authorized to furnish a photocopy or other reproductions. One of these specified conditions is that the photocopy or reproduction is not to be "used for any purpose other than private study, scholarship, or research." If a user makes a request for, or later uses, a photocopy or reproduction for purposes in excess of "fair use," that user may be liable for copyright infringement.

This institution reserves the right to refuse to accept a copying order if, in its judgment, fulfillment of that order would involve violation of the law.

Tips

  • Verify your citation.
  • Check the Library Catalog before submitting requests.
  • Watch typing errors - Spelling counts!
  • Provide as much information a possible: Title, Author, Date, Publisher.
  • Request renewal in advance.

Requests

  • Loan materials are anything that must be returned to the Lending Library and include:
    • Theses/Dissertations.
    • Musical scores.
    • Government Documents.
    • Newspaper microfilm.
    • Audiobooks, DVDs, CDs and other media.
  • Standard services are provided free of charge.
  • Available only to ISU faculty, students and staff on the Pocatello, Idaho Falls or Meridian campuses.
  • Monitor Requests by checking your ILLiad Account.
  • Most items arrive within two weeks.
    • You will receive a notice in your ISU email account (yourname@isu.edu) when available.
  • Due dates vary and are set by Lending Library.
    • Overdue fees are $1.00 per item per day overdue.
    • Renewals can be requested by replying to the "Courtesy Due Notice" email or calling the ILL Office.
  • Theses/Dissertations borrowed via Interlibrary Loan MUST be returned to the Lending library.
  • Many institutions are making their theses/dissertations available online. Please check our online directories for availability. (Contact the Reference Desk for assistance.)
  • Standard services are provided free of charge.
  • Available only to ISU faculty, students and staff on the Pocatello, Idaho Falls or Meridian campuses.
  • Monitor Requests by checking your ILLiad Interlibrary Loan Account.
  • Most items arrive within two weeks.
    • You will receive a notice in your ISU email account (yourname@isu.edu) when available.
  • Due dates vary and are set by Lending library.
    • Overdue fees are $1.00 per item per day overdue.
    • Renewals can be requested via your ILLiad Interlibrary Loan Account or replying to the "Courtesy Due Notice" email.
  • You may be able to purchase a copy for your personal collection (Purchasing Theses/Dissertations tab).

  • Media materials that MUST be returned to the Lending library and include:
    • Audiobooks.
    • Videos.
    • CDs.
    • DVDs.
  • Standard services are provided free of charge.
  • Available only to ISU faculty, students and staff on the Pocatello, Idaho Falls or Meridian campuses.
  • Monitor requests by checking your ILLiad Interlibrary Loan account.
  • Most items arrive within two weeks.
    • You will receive a notice in your ISU email account (yourname@isu.edu) when available.
  • Due dates vary and are set by Lending library.
    • Overdue fees are $1.00 per item per day overdue.
    • Renewals can be requested via your ILLiad Interlibrary Loan Account or replying to the "Courtesy Due Notice" email.
  • Some items may be Library Use Only and cannot leave the Library premises.
  • Newspaper microfilm MUST be returned to the Lending library.
  • Use the Book form for your request.
  • Provide correct title and complete place of publication.
    • e.g. Idaho State Journal, Pocatello, ID. (Not Pocatello newspaper)
  • If needed dates are close in range (e.g. Apr-June 2012), place ONE request. If dates are far apart (e.g. Apr. 2010, May 2011), please separate requests, one for each date range.
  • Standard services are provided free of charge.
  • Available only to ISU faculty, students and staff on the Pocatello, Idaho Falls or Meridian campuses.

How To:

From our Databases

  1. Click on “Request this item through interlibrary loan” or “Find it at ISU” button.
  2. Sign in to ILLiad Interlibrary Loan using your ISU (Bengal) ID and your last name. First time users will be prompted to create an account.
  3. Verify information transferred into request form correctly. Add any additional information, if needed.
  4. Click “Submit Request”.

 

Manual Entry

  1. Check the Library Catalog to make sure the Library does not have the item. If you need help, please contact the Reference Desk .
  2. Sign in to ILLiad Interlibrary Loan using your ISU (Bengal) ID and last name. First time users will be prompted to create an account.
  3. Select your request type (Book, Conference Paper, Media) from the Top Menu --> New Requests.
  4. Click “Submit Request”.
  5. Submit a separate request for each item.

A renewal for Interlibrary Loan items may be requested 5 (five) days before a book is due. 

To request a provisional renew:

  • Sign in to your ILLiad Interlibrary Loan account
  • Under "Checked Out Items," click the orange “Renew” button​ next to the item you wish to renew.
    •  A temporary due date will appear in your ILLiad Interlibrary Loan account
  • If the “Renew” button is gray, the item cannot be renewed.

Interlibrary loan staff will then contact the lending library and will email you with the correct renewal due date. 

The following items cannot be renewed and must be returned to the library:

  • Items marked "Renewals Allowed: No" on the bookstrap
  • Items 4 (four) or more days overdue
