Recently, Philip Homan was nominated by an ISU faculty member for the Be a Bengal award because he provided expertise in a timely manner to a peer faculty member in choosing which journal to submit their article. Homan's advise helped this faculty member to avoid submitting their article to a predatory journal, which also helped them avoid the negative consequences that arise from publishing in a predatory journals.
Philip Homan's nomination was submitted under the category of "Hope - Direction, Confidence, Guidance."
Be a Bengal recognizes employee excellence in one of four categories: trust, compassion, stability, and hope. Students, faculty, and staff can nominate deserving individuals via this online form. Then, a congratulatory email is sent to each nominee and their supervisor. At the end of each month, a random drawing of all the nominations takes place and a winner is selected. Each month the Be a Bengal drawing winner receives a $25.00 Visa gift card and is announced in ISU Today. In Spring 2021, all the year's nominees, including Philip Homan, are entered into another random drawing for "Employee of the Year."
