The Eli M. Oboler Award

The Eli M. Oboler Memorial Award is sponsored by the Intellectual Freedom Round Table (IFRT) of the American Library Association. The biennial award consists of $500 and a certificate, and is presented for the "best published work in the area of intellectual freedom." The award was originally announced in 1986, and created to honor the Idaho librarian who was known as "a champion of intellectual freedom who demanded the dismantling of all barriers to freedom of expression." It is presented to an author or authors of an article, a series of thematically connected articles, a book, or a manual concerned with intellectual freedom. A list of past recipients follows.
